The European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) has published a new update on the implementation of the Climate Change and Health Flagship of the Strategy for European Life Sciences. According to the update, the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2026–2027 has already delivered €168 million across five topics related to climate change and health. The three 2026 calls have already been evaluated, and the corresponding projects are expected to start soon.

The update is particularly relevant for organisations working at the intersection of climate resilience and health protection. Among the upcoming 2027 topics is a pre-commercial procurement on tools and technologies to support health adaptation to climate change, aiming to enhance surveillance, prediction, prevention, risk management and preparedness of healthcare systems and populations. This reflects the growing European recognition that climate-related health threats require not only research, but also practical and scalable solutions to support authorities, health systems and communities.

This broader European momentum is strongly aligned with the mission of healthRiskADAPT, which supports better understanding, assessment and communication of health risks linked to heatwaves, air pollution, wildfire emissions and pollen.
