As Europe experiences increasingly hot summers and growing air pollution challenges, ensuring healthy and comfortable learning environments is becoming an important priority for climate adaptation.

SchoolVent, developed through collaboration between TNO, VFA Solutions and Lucam in the Netherlands, offers an innovative solution combining smart ventilation, advanced air filtration, heat recovery and energy-efficient evaporative cooling. By automatically adjusting airflow according to CO₂ levels and indoor temperatures, the system helps create cleaner, quieter and more comfortable classrooms while reducing energy demand.

Within the EU-funded healthRiskADAPT project, the potential demonstration of SchoolVent in one of the four pilot cities — Lyon, Naples, Oslo or Bern — is being explored.

This initiative reflects healthRiskADAPT’s ambition to transform scientific innovation into practical climate adaptation solutions that protect vulnerable populations, including schoolchildren, and support healthier, more resilient communities.
